Bluetooth technology continues to improve thanks to the research of the SIG (Special Interest Group) which is responsible for its development. The latest version of this technology is ready and the first devices could already arrive in spring 2017.
Version 5 of Bluetooth brings some innovations in particular on the stability of the exchange of information and speed in order to adapt the technology to the advent of the connected objects.
Faster, more stable Bluetooth
According to information provided by the GIS in charge of the development of Bluetooth technology, this new system clearly improves the performance of Bluetooth, especially compared to version 4.2 Low Energy. The Bluetooth 5 offers more range, more power and more speed for the exchange of information.
Compared to the Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, the Bluetooth 5 should be twice as fast, have a range four times greater and allow to transfer data packets eight times larger. It would also allow sending and receiving packets of 255 bytes against 31 bytes before.
Low consumption for connected objects
The GIS in charge of the development of Bluetooth does not hide its intention to make Bluetooth 5 an essential technology of the connected objects that should multiply in the years to come, according to many firms of study. All the builders are on the starting blocks to conquer a market that still has to show the extent of its potential.
If the Bluetooth 5 standard is finalized, the first devices should only be released in the course of 2017, at best under two months, according to the Special Interest Group. After that, the Bluetooth 5 should be democratized especially thanks to the low energy consumption ideal for connected objects working on battery.
