A document that says more
It is learned that documentation relating to the patent filed in May by the Seoul firm describes a helmet that can detect the position, facial expressions and eye movements of the user.
Samsung's current Gear VR is somewhat disadvantaged compared to other competitor models available on the market, as location tracking is not included. It is therefore not surprising that the Korean brand is working to correct this flaw. Besides this functionality, the patent also speaks of sensors which will model the face of the player and which will therefore make it possible to carry out said follow-up.
On the images of the Gear VR helmet, there are several integrated sensors, including infrared and electrooculographic sensors placed along the wall, to monitor eye movements and facial expressions.
Despite the publication of this patent, the South Korean company has not yet issued any information on the development of this "enhanced" helmet. But if this object were to emerge, it would begin to reduce the gap between the mobile VR and the traditional VR helmets like Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.
