This is a feature that has long been expected by Twitter users. Until now, it was not possible to edit an already published tweet. A rule that could soon change according to the CEO of the social network.
This Thursday, the CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, was arrested on the social network by a surfer named Howard Lindzon. He wanted to know if one day it would be possible for users with audited accounts to edit their tweets. The answer was not long in coming: "Yes, we clearly need a form of editing. But for everyone, not just for accounts with the badge checked. "
Given Jack Dorsey's position in Twitter, of which he is both CEO and co-founder, there is little doubt that this feature will happen soon. For now, it is still impossible to edit a tweet once it has been published. In the best case, it is possible to delete it to send a corrected version, or to answer it yourself to make visible changes in tweets.
However, this quasi-announcement from Jack Dorsey is far from delighting all users of the social network. Twitter being intrinsically linked to the timeline and flow, unlike Facebook, tweaking a past tweet is of little interest. Worse, it could allow some to transform a classic message that would have received many "likes" or "retweets" into a hateful message or harassment. The site Gizmodo cites the case of the false news: "the trust in the publications on line is at the lowest. So why would Twitter add a function that would make a user doubt what he is reading? "
