Facebook will now report false information

Facebook will now report false information

Facebook continues its recent fight against the circulation of false information on its social network. The company has just announced all the steps it will take to verify the items that are shared. Thus, Facebook will now notify you if a publication can misrepresent using third-party organizations.

Facebook will launch a tool that will make it easier to post a publication in the news feed. To develop this tool, the company has worked with independent organizations that have signed the Poynter Institute's International Code of Test Principles. For now, Facebook works with Snopes, Politifact, ABC News and FactCheck.org. Other organizations are expected to join the project later.

The false information will be indicated by a "flag"

The principle is simple, now when a user shares an article, these four organizations will analyze the veracity of the information. If at least three of the four contest the article, it will not be removed from the news feed, but it will be flagged. Facebook will indicate that the information has been challenged by the three organizations. In addition, links will link you to articles from these three sources.

Moreover, the article that is contested will appear at the very bottom of the news. Facebook also provides other tools in its fight against false information. For example, if a publication is very little shared, it means that the information is potentially false so Facebook will get it off the news too.
