Cybercrime: 689 million victims in 2015

The end of the year is often the time of the balance sheets and the firm specializing in computer security, Norton, published in November 2016 its latest report on cybercrime in the world. Not surprisingly, the number of victims is rising as well as the overall cost of these illegal activities.

The Norton Cyber Security Insights Report 2016 gives an idea of the main factors that make hackers succeed in making more and more victims. Most of the time, it's the user's fault.

Cybercrime: 689 million victims for $ 126 billion

The report published by Norton is cold: cybercriminals in 2015 succeeded in causing 689 million victims in the only 21 countries studied and to steal money and information for an estimated 126 billion euros Dollars in one year. But this is not all, online fraud would increase sharply: the report estimates +10% the number of frauds on the web in 2016 compared to 2015.

These figures are explained, according to Norton, by the attitude of the users. 40% of those questioned by the firm say they are unable to recognize a real mail from a fake. And while 86% of respondents have already been faced with a phishing attempt, 13% say they have already done a dangerous manipulation on this subject like clicking on a link or filling out forms. 80% of these people say they were then victims of identity theft or bank card.

Internet: the place of all dangers

The risks of phishing but also the theft of bank data during connections, for example, to public Wi-Fi make Internet users now afraid of the Internet. For 51% of Norton respondents, it is more difficult to be safe on the Internet than on the street.

Parents, especially, are 48% worried that their children will be the targets of cyber-harassment.
