One of the main criticisms concerning Apple Watch concerns its design, Apple having chosen a square box when many voices have expressed their preference for a more rounded shape.
Apple has however considered a round shape, as shown by a patent filed at the USPTO, although its release is not safe at the moment.
The patent in question dates from January 2016, several months after the release of the first version of the Apple Watch. Difficult to know if this is a simple prototype idea or truly a product being studied at Apple for an upcoming release, always is that the present drawings show a perfectly round screen. The papers study the technologies needed to power a circular screen, as well as how to arrange the pixels on a round surface.
Released last October, the Apple Watch Series 2 has retained the same design as the first version, making false the many rumors evoking a new form. These patents prove that Apple would have at least considered a watch closer to the Samsung Galaxy Gear and other Moto 360, but if it were to exist, such a watch would not be released until the end of 2017.
