Former Google Car director wants to launch his own cars

Former Google Car director wants to launch his own cars

Chris Urmson, the former CFO (chief financial officer) of the Google Car project, is expected to launch his own company specializing in the autopilot system.
Chris Urmson had indeed left the American giant last August to focus on personal projects. The former CFO was one of three key people in Google's stand-alone car project. By negotiating his departure, Google would have forbidden him to re-use the same codes or even to hire some of his former colleagues.

Chris Urmson plans to set up a start-up company next year that will offer a complete service by providing software, data and devices. He would like to compete with his former company and other car manufacturers. In recent months, he has encouraged engineers from Tesla, Uber and Apple to join his start-up.

However, the market for autonomous cars is a market where many players are investing. Faced with huge companies, the challenge of Chris Urmson is not yet won.
