Thanks to a new prototype Thrustcycle, autostabilized motorcycles could arrive on the market in 2017. Called GyroCycle, the machine remains in a vertical position using internal steering wheels that create a gyroscopic effect.
This new technology would offer several advantages. First, stability would be better, even when the machine is stationary. Thereafter, the traction losses would be limited and the risk of falling during a turn would decrease. Thus, the rider would have greater control and his safety would be better assured.
Self-balancing motorcycles could open up a new market. Balance would no longer be a concern for newcomers while older riders would have a gear suited to their strengths. These two categories of customers have favored the emergence of three-wheeled machines. The GyroCycle would thus be another alternative with its more traditional two-wheeled design.
Will Thrustcycle damage the pawn to BMW?
Manufacturers are also looking for ways to better integrate new technologies with motorcycles. Thus, BMW unveiled the Motorrad Vision Next 100. Like the GyroCycle, it would be greener, more stable and quieter. If the absence of a gasoline engine hampers some purists, manufacturers mainly emphasize the advantages of self-balancing.
Compared to the competition, the GyroCycle would cost less. No official price has yet been published, but Thrustcycle suggested that the price would be less than $ 20,000.
