Google: let your closest friends know where you are

Google: let your closest friends know where you are

In 2013, Google stopped its Google Latitude application, which made it possible to share its location with its contacts. If for three years we had not seen a replacement app, it seems that Google is back with geolocation. The American giant launches "Trusted Contacts".

A security tool

With "Trusted Contacts," you can let your trusted friends know where you stand. The new application can be used as a security tool to reassure your loved ones especially in the event of a disaster. During an event, the contacts you have chosen may ask to know your location in order to be reassured. You will then receive a notification where you can choose to share your location or reject the request. If you do not respond within 5 minutes, the application will automatically send your status to your contacts.

A real companion

Moreover, "Trusted Contacts" can also be used as a true companion that follows you everywhere. When you leave a late night for example, you can share your location with a friend to follow your journey to destination. Once you arrive, you will simply have to press a button on the screen of your smartphone to indicate that you have reached your destination.

Of course, some people can make misuse of the app by tracking you wherever you go. One thinks of course to the jealous companions or to the malicious friends. That is why it is very important to choose trustworthy friends. Trusted contacts is available now on Android.
