Windows 10: the "blue screen of death" turns green

Windows 10: the "blue screen of death" turns green

Present in Windows since version 1.0 of the operating system in 1985, the blue screen of death could soon evolve ... going green.

"Your computer has encountered a problem and needs to reboot," a message still scary for Windows users. For decades, the system has been displaying this type of message on a blue background, called "blue screen of death", when the system has crashed and has to be restarted, losing all the work that has not previously been saved.

For no specific reason, Microsoft has decided to work on a new version of this screen signaling a crash. For the Insider version of Windows 10, the screen is now green. This color should however remain reserved for Windows 10 Insiders, using test builds of the operating system, which are therefore not finalized, and will not be generalized to the final versions of Windows 10.

Microsoft did not explain this color change. However, according to journalist Tom Warren of The Verge, very aware of the news of the Redmond firm, it could be a way to distinguish crashes from finalized versions of Windows to those coming from test versions : "A good number of Windows 10 pre-release users publish worries like blue screens on blogs or social networks. Passing the color to green will allow Microsoft to identify them during the test phases. "

Available for a few days for Windows Insider users, version 14997 of Windows 10 features features that will be incorporated into the Creators Update scheduled for early next year.
