While Google has just unveiled the Android 7.1.1 update for its Nexus devices, Sony seems to be on the starting blocks for an imminent deployment. According to information obtained from the Xperia Blog site, Sony developers would work hard to make the manufacturer the first to upgrade its smartphones to Android version 7.1.1. "This is our number one priority.
If you see another manufacturer coming out this update before us, get ready to throw us tomatoes, "said a member of the developer team at the site.
Android version 7.1.1 only brings a few minor updates. Already available for a few days on Google pixels and Nexus devices, it adds desktop shortcuts for the Google Now launcher, improved stability, more performance and eleven new emojis.
According to the Xperia Blog site, the developers of Sony have already started working on the source code of Android 7.1.1. They would still expect from Google the suite of applications and the compatibility test suite. The site does not however reveal which Sony's first smartphones would benefit from this update, even if one can build on the recent ranges Xperia X, XA and XZ.
