Rumors about the fact that Xiaomi was working on a new processor were persistent. Now, it's official. The Chinese manufacturer will present its Pinecone processor on February 28th. Moreover, a Weibo page has just been dedicated to this component which will equip the future smartphone of the brand.
Pinecone is the result of collaboration between Xiaomi and Leadcore. The latter had notably equipped the Redmi 2A with a chip of its manufacture in 2015. The Chinese manufacturer should not reveal the details of the processor until the end of February, but rumors already speak of two versions of Pinecone.
The two components called Pinecone V670 and V970 would be unveiled at the same time as the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The V670 version should be etched in 28 nm with 2 x 4 cores ARM Cortex A53. If it is intended for the mid-range smartphone, the V970 version would show a greater performance by being engraved in 10 nm. It would be equipped with four ARM Cortex A73 cores and four ARM Cortex A53 cores.
Xiaomi joins as well Samsung, Apple and Huawei which are the only smartphone manufacturers in the world to have their own processors.
