Oculus will have to pay half a billion to ZeniMax

Oculus is accused of using technologies stolen from ZeniMax to design his Rift helmet. The subsidiary of Facebook will thus pay a fine of 500 million dollars.
The verdict fell Wednesday afternoon after two and a half days of deliberation in the North Texas District Court.

ZeniMax is a publisher specializing in video games, but the company has also filed patents on virtual reality. She accuses Oculus of taking advantage of her technical know-how through her former employees who helped develop the Rift helmet.

But for the Facebook boss, Mark Zuckerberg, the technology in question was not at the point when its subsidiary began its development. He also pointed out that the complaint was filed at the time his business was negotiating the takeover of Oculus.

It must be said that Oculus and ZeniMax have a common past in that they collaborated in 2012 for a version of Doom 3 in Oculus Rift. During the trial, ZeniMax's lawyer replied to Marck Zuckerberg that "improving this technology does not make it yours".

While Facebook is considering other legal proceedings, ZeniMax is considering obtaining an injunction to stop sales of the Oculus Rift.
