Microsoft launches virtual simulator for drones

Microsoft has developed a virtual simulator to help developers train their drones. The company has just released the free beta version in open source.

To train a drone to sail in the real world can very quickly represent an important cost especially when this one crashes and is damaged. To help developers train their drones by avoiding collisions, Microsoft has created the Aerial Informatics and Robotics Platform. It is a platform that allows you to pilot your own drone in different places, usually in an environment close to reality with all the obstacles that go with: electric cables, trees, etc. The software is connected to both the drone platforms and the machine learning systems.

The simulation is available in open source on GitHub only if you have a very powerful PC. In addition to avoiding real collisions, the simulator allows developers to gain data much faster.

The goal of Microsoft is to push the development of autonomous devices like the drone.
