The new techno of Google makes disappear the helmets VR

The new techno of Google makes disappear the helmets VR

Google and Daydream Labs have worked together to provide an enhanced virtual reality experience.
Now, two users can see each other without the headset hiding their faces. In addition, observers are entitled to a rendering in which the expression of the participants is fully visible. The technology is proving very useful in VR videoconferencing or multiplayer games.

The two research centers have used a modified HTC Vive that has functionality that can follow the user's eyes. The idea is to replace the helmet with a 3D model of the face in the final rendering. A depth camera thus reproduces the features of the user in one minute. His expressions are then memorized to ensure more realism afterwards.

The team used a green background and a camera synchronized with the VR headset. The user then finds himself in the virtual environment while the helmet is replaced by the 3D model of the face. But rather than removing the entire gadget, the team opted for a "diving mask" effect. Now, video demonstrations in virtual reality will be more aesthetic with the disappearance of the bulky headphones.
