Huawei tops China's smartphone market in 2016

Oppo is the champion of this year end in China for smartphone sales. It is Huawei, however, that will be playing well in 2016.

Counterpoint has just delivered sales figures for smartphones in China for the last quarter of 2016. Local builders are cutting croupiers to leaders today ... and yesterday.

Oppo thus holds the top of the ranking, with 18.3% market share. It is closely followed by Huawei (17.1%), Vivo (14.5%) and Apple (12.2%). Xiaomi, still number one on Q4 2015, is relegated to fifth position, with 9.9% market share. Finally, Samsung closes the Counterpoint ranking, with only 5.5% market share.

Over the year, five manufacturers exceeded 10% of PDM:

1- Huawei: 16.4%
2- Oppo: 15.5%
3- Vivo: 13.9%
4- Xiaomi: 10.9%
5- Apple: 10.4%

Stars and shooting stars

The Chinese smartphone market is trompe-l'oeil. Of course, it is colossal, and those who succeed have every chance to impose themselves internationally. However, many are unable to take this step. Nor even to hold on the length.

We can thus separate the manufacturers into two camps: on one side the shooting stars, stars today and almost forgotten tomorrow, like Oppo, Vivo or Xiaomi. And on the other side the sure values, which are successful in China as well as internationally, such as Huawei and Apple. Only Samsung is band-a-share, with market shares of only 6.9% in China over the year 2016.
