Microsoft wants a "digital Geneva convention"

Microsoft wants a "digital Geneva convention"

Cyber attacks are wreaking havoc in a world where everything is increasingly computerized and connected. While the army is already taking the necessary precautions, large high-tech companies seem to be caught in a game that goes beyond them.
In 2014, the data of Sony Picture were stolen while the FBI has hacked the iPhone despite the opposition of Apple. With regard to the suspicions about the American election, it seems that a cyber-war would no longer be science fiction.

In an open letter, Microsoft President Brad Smith emphasized the need for a "digital convention in Geneva". According to him, companies should remain neutral in cyberspace. This implies the absence of any positioning in favor of their government. And it seems that Microsoft has already led the way in declaring that it will not collaborate with the US government in setting up a register on Muslims.

This digital convention in Geneva will not only concern companies, but also governments. According to the president of Microsoft, they should "not engage in cyber attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, either the electrical grid or the political system."
