Nokia 3310: the Proust madeleine of the living room (MWC)

It was a very pressing rumor and Nokia subscribed to it by presenting the new 3310, 2017 edition at the very end of its Barcelona conference.

While technology-intensive smartphones, such as the Huawei P10 or the LG G6, are presented at the 2017 Mobile World Congress, Nokia has managed to make room for itself with a wind of nostalgia blown by the memory of an iconic phone from the brand , 3310.

17 years after the original, the Finnish firm launches a new version of its past glory. The spirit 3310 has been preserved with a design recognizable among thousands, but still updated. Thinner (12.8 mm vs. 22 mm in 2000) and lighter, the new 3310 also has a 2.4-inch QVGA color display. No tactile here but a good old directional pad located under the screen. A small gap since the original 3310 did not own it and relied on a series of buttons under its screen.

Gross regret, the hull is fixed. So it is impossible to change the finish, as was the case on the first 3310. An emblematic possibility that we would have liked to find. It is therefore necessary to be content with the four colors available: hot red (brilliant), dark blue (matt), yellow (brilliant) or gray (matt).

On the functions side, the 3310 remains blocked a few years back. Point 4G, nor even 3G here, but a 2G module that allows to phone and send SMS. We go back to the basics with all the same an Internet connection in addition, but of unprecedented slowness. The photo also appears on the 3310 with a sensor of 2 megapixels just as reactive and with approximate shots.

To find a healthy foundation, we will rely instead on the mythical Snake that rocked the owners of the 3310 of 2000. Henceforth in colors, it retained the playability of yesteryear. Finally, there is also a radio function and an MP3 player on this new 3310. To store its music, it will be necessary to have a microSD card (up to 32 GB), the internal memory of 16 MB being inoperable .

If it is very poor in function, the 3310 of 2017 has an unstoppable weapon: its autonomy. Nokia thus advances more than 22 hours in communication, 51 hours in MP3 reading and up to one month in standby.
