The "Instant Tethering" of Android is finally available

The "Instant Tethering" of Android is finally available

Google announced its new tool "Instant Tethering" last January. The functionality that allows a single connection for several devices is finally available. Instant Tethering will however be available for Nexus and Pixel devices only, initially.

Instant Tethering is a new Android feature that automatically connects multiple devices from a single Wi-Fi point. This tool ensures that all Android devices remain connected without having to enable connection sharing each time. Concretely, if you have several Android tablets, it will be possible to connect them all to the same smartphone which will then become the "modem" of your small network.

The new feature is now available and being deployed on Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P smartphones and tablets. These devices must of course be equipped with Android 7.1.1 at least and be connected to the same Google account.

Now, once Instant Tethering is enabled, you will no longer have to enter a password or enable connection sharing each time. In addition, to avoid consuming too much battery, the connection will be deactivated after 10 minutes of inactivity on one of the devices.
