Connected lenses from Sony are once again talking about them, while the brand has just seen its patent approved by the US Patent and Trademark Office after filing it last April. The patent describes a lens packed with electronics, capable of taking photos or videos with a simple blink of the eye.
Sony's lens would therefore have many sensors capable of detecting eye blinks and determining whether they are voluntary or reflex. She could interpret these blinks as orders to perform certain actions, such as taking a picture or video. For this, all the electronics necessary for shooting and storing data could be embedded directly around the eye. Finally, piezoelectric sensors would be able to convert the movements of the eye into energy to power the lens.
Sony is not the only brand to study the possibility of connected lenses. Samsung also filed its patent for a technology of the same type, which would even carry a screen in its lenses. Google would have also explored this route, after the curiosity aroused by its Google Glass, which never saw the light of day.
