9to5Mac advanced a few hours ago that Apple had a new connector in its boxes. Known as UAC (Ultra Accessory Connector), it would actually be an already existing connector, derived from the USB.
Without a true official name, this 10-pin connector is already used by several manufacturers such as Nikon, where it is named UC-E6. More compact than a mini-USB, it has just been registered with the MFI program of Apple. This does not mean that it will be used in the brand's products.
Apple explains to ArsTechnica that it was a request from the buyers of the MFI license, who want to create UAC converters to Lightning. Apple does not yet give up its home connectivity. It will therefore always have to go through proprietary cables or adapters until Apple, one day perhaps, takes the step towards the normalization carried by the USB-C.
