The Portal video game recreated in augmented reality with Hololens

The Portal video game recreated in augmented reality with Hololens

In order to visualize the possibilities offered by the Hololens helmet from Microsoft, a developer imagined what Portal video game might look like in real life.

Hololens from Microsoft is an augmented reality headset, that is, it allows you to display additional information in a space it is filming at the same time. If the system is based on the same principle as the Glass glasses of Google, it is much more evolved with the possibility of adding real 3D elements that will otherwise integrate perfectly into your environment, like a World created in Minecraft that could rest on a coffee table.

For its part, developer Kenny W. imagined recreating the game Portal in its real environment using Hololens. He developed a program to visualize a "companion cube", a portal gun and portals orange and blue created aiming with the weapon. It can thus pass the cube from one portal to another, all in reality only augmented. Obviously, unlike the video game of the studio Valve, this program does not make it possible to move oneself from one portal to another.

Portal is a video game of puzzles to be solved, published by Valve in 2007. It takes place in the same universe as Half Life and also saw a sequel in 2011. Kenny W. has however not published its program to allow Possessors of Hololens to install it.
