The cult game Postal becomes open source

The cult game Postal becomes open source

Running With Scissors shared the original codes of Postal in open source, it is now available on Bitbucket under GPL2 license. Remember that at the beginning of this year, the developer released a remastered version of his game in high definition.

Last year, Running With Scissors announced it wanted to share the source codes of its cult title if "someone promises to wear it on Dreamcast". The company did not say whether his wish had been granted or not. In any case, she has taken the plunge and "puts the future of the game to the fans". Henceforth, those who have the time and competence will be able to "modify, update and make changes" as such cult.

Postal, a digital poison in freedom?

On its release, Senator Joe Lieberman called Postal a "digital poison". Despite its many scenes of violence, this game is now among the cult titles. But Postal has often been taken as an example in the debates around violence in video games. The other major reference of this debate is obviously GTA. But unlike Postal, Grand Theft Auto is a great commercial success. For example, GTA V has surpassed one billion dollars in revenues in just one week and according to the latest information available, Rockstar Games has sold more than 70 million copies.
