A drone crashed on the Space Needle, the Seattle Tower

Video images confirm that a drone crashed at the top of the Space Needle, the futuristic tour of Seattle on New Year's Eve. The machine was recovered by the staff and is currently in the hands of the police.

The video was published by Dave Mandapat, a representative of Space Needle. Indeed, the drone DJI Inspire took a video of three minutes before crashing on the top of the emblematic building whereas the pyrotechnic experts there prepared the annual fireworks of the tower. But, the sequence leaves no clue about the origin of the drone.

Tower employees seized the aircraft from a projector and reported the incident to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on 9 January. The drone is currently in the Seattle Police Department as an exhibit, according to Detective Mark Jamieson. While it is still unclear whether the case concerns the police or the FAA, Dave Mandapat has his little idea about the origin of the drone. He thinks the aircraft took off from one of the tourist hotels around the tower. "They must have been 700 to 800 feet above the ground to do this," he explains.

In October, the FAA announced measures to register drones, but this did not prevent several accidents across states during last year. What will happen to the law on drones adopted in France?
