Mac OS: the new beta tackles the brightness of your screen

Mac OS: the new beta tackles the brightness of your screen

After the battery problems with its MacBook Pro, Apple intends to optimize the battery life of the next version of Sierra macOS. The system will incorporate a new feature to better manage the brightness of the screen.

Currently in its beta version, Sierra macOS already indicated applications that use the most resources. Now, this feature will also take into account the brightness of the screen.

Reduce the brightness for more autonomy

A list of energy-intensive applications is displayed by clicking the battery icon in the system menu bar. Now, when the brightness of the screen exceeds 80%, an element related to the backlight appears. By clicking on it, the user automatically reduces the brightness to 75%. But it can still increase it by pressing the element again.

This behavior of Sierra macOS works even when the automatic brightness adjustment is enabled. Regarding the temporal estimate of remaining autonomy, Apple has not yet put back the indicator following numerous complaints from users about its inaccuracy.

Apple uses technology similar to iOS to report applications and features that consume more power. However macOS does not yet have a low power mode like iOS.

If developers and testers are currently the only ones to have the beta version, the public will appreciate the final version of MacOS 10.12.3 in the coming days.
