Qualcomm wants to recharge our smartphones in 5 minutes

If Qualcomm has just announced the start of its next generation processor, the Snapdragon 835, the manufacturer also presented in the wake its new version of fast charge for smartphone.

Quick Charge 4, the new technology developed by Qualcomm, proposes to recharge a smartphone in 5 minutes for 5 hours of autonomy. It would be possible to recharge a 50% device in 15 minutes. According to Qualcomm, Quick Charge 4 would be 20% more efficient than the old edition. The connector will of course be USB Type-C, but also compatible with the USB PD (Power Delivery) standard.

But the ability to charge a smartphone in 5 minutes is not the only innovation expected by Qualcomm. The manufacturer also promises to improve the longevity of our batteries. This is one of the main complaints that can generally be made against the Quick Charge technology: if it can almost completely charge a smartphone in less than thirty minutes, it can damage the smartphone Battery after a few months. And when one knows the difficulty and the price to change a battery in a state-of-the-art device, there is every reason to wonder about the merits of this technology. Qualcomm promises to solve the problem in the next version of Quick Charge.

Finally, Quick Charge 4 also introduces a new version of INOV, which is coming to its third edition. The algorithm used makes it possible to detect and adapt the voltages of the smartphone. Again, this innovation should bring increased longevity to the battery in the long term. It will not take long before checking the effectiveness of this new technology, Quick Charge 4 to be available in the first half of 2017.
