The video game streaming service to war against blockers advertisements. Like Facebook, Twitch announced the deployment of a system that would prevent block ads. This system called SureStream decrease the effectiveness of some blockers like Adblock.
The principle is identical to that used Facebook to fight against pubs blockers. Twitch will transform its advertisements in regular content by changing the way they are "coded". Thus, Adblock would not be able to identify the announcement as a publicity and therefore could not block it. Twitch said the company had taken this decision because many users were using blockers pubs. But the ads are an important part of income not only for Twitch himself, but also for people to distribute content.
In August, Facebook had started the same struggle against Adblock who then returned fire. In the end, Adblock is not currently able to completely block ads within Facebook. Twitch began using SureStream yesterday and should be deployed to all users in the coming months.
