It is now a ritual that Windows Insider users know well: Windows 10 is paying a new beta, and brings its small batch of novelties and patches. This time, Microsoft Edge, PowerShell and Paint 3D are being honored.
The build 14971 of Windows 10, accessible to all from the Windows Insider program, has just landed. First novelty: the Microsoft Edge browser has an unprecedented feature. Thanks to him, it is now possible to consult books in EPUB format. This type of file is now widely available on download platforms such as Feedbooks, Project Gutenberg, Free eBooks, ePubBooks (registration required), Open Library and even Microsoft Press. Under Edge, it is also possible to add bookmarks during playback, to modify the font of the document, to choose one of the three proposed themes (bright, sepia or dark), and so on.
Second small change: PowerShell now completely replaces the command prompt. Even if it has not disappeared and can still be used in Windows 10, PowerShell is now the default tool when entering the command "cmd.exe" from the Run function, when you open the context menu of the Button to start or when you type "cmd" in the search field of Cortana. Microsoft also reminds us that PowerShell has just celebrated its 10 years of existence.
Third modification: Paint 3D is now installed by default and replaces the very old Paint. The application is currently only available in English, but should benefit from a wider range of languages very quickly.
Last but not least, the beta updates of Office Office Suite are now available from the Get Office 2.0 application and are integrated into the Windows Insider.
The new build of Windows 10 is freely accessible from Settings> Updates and Security> Windows Insider Program> Receive Insider Preview builds. Note that the new version of Windows 10 is only available to PC users. No new edition dedicated to smartphones has been released yet.
