To remedy this, the Chinese company Pico VR has developed Neo, a standalone VR headset running Android, with a resolution of 1200x1080 pixels, a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a field of view at 102 degrees.
His particuliarity ? It works without a smartphone. For this, Pico designers created a controller equipped with all the hardware needed to power the dedicated software: SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space expandable by microSD card and 5000 mAh battery. Once the joystick connected to the headset, one can appreciate the virtual reality experience, sitting or standing and most importantly, without the inconvenient weight of the smartphone on the face.
The Pico Neo VR was officially introduced in April. At the Virtual Reality Developer Conference in San Francisco, held on November 2 and 3, a "developer" version was available to the public.
