If Volkswagen had introduced an autonomous taxi concept during the Geneva International Motor Show, Airbus goes further by offering three-dimensional urban mobility.
Called Pop.Up, this concept car is presented as a monocoque the size of a Twizy. But we must not rely on appearances, because the vehicle reserves many surprises.
Car, drone and capsule hyperloop
The demonstration video presents a passenger who takes board in the autonomous car after using a dedicated mobile application. The two-seater rolls a moment before stopping to deploy its eight-rotor module and take the airway. On the ground, Pop.Up continues his journey in a transport system similar to the Hyperloop.
This concept is the result of cooperation between Airbus and Italdesign. The modular shuttle carries a fully electric motor developing 60kW and autonomous navigation relies on an artificial intelligence designed by Airbus. The latter establishes the trajectory and the module to be deployed. The prototype is still a concept, but Airbus and Italdesign think it will be fully operational within a decade.
