Chrome 57 reduces consumption of inactive tabs

Chrome 57 reduces consumption of inactive tabs

Exit a few days ago, version 57 of Chrome reserves a little surprise on which Google had not communicated much so far. The browser allows to reduce the energy consumption by reducing the work done by the tabs open, but inactive.

One of the biggest criticisms that users make with respect to Chrome (and it is not the only one in this situation) is its energy consumption. If the problem is not inconvenient on a large desktop configuration, it is on a small notebook or tablet. The navigator begins to row, discharging the battery much faster from the device. To offset this kind of galley, Google has set up a new system, which aims to significantly decrease the CPU usage made by the tabs in the background. This does not interrupt audio playback, but allows Google to reduce the CPU usage of the browser by 25%.

This feature is already included in Chrome 57, released a few days ago in stable and finalized version. Ultimately, Google's goal is to totally suspend unused tabs and exploit new APIs.
