Instagram: live video yes, but ephemeral

Instagram: live video yes, but ephemeral

Yesterday, Instagram officially launched a new feature to its application: live videos. After Facebook and Periscope, Instagram catches up a bit late. However, unlike its competitors, these live videos will be ephemeral.

Indeed, Facebook and Périscope offer users to create permanent live videos. On Instagram, as soon as a live video ends, it disappears. The system remains simple since it is enough to record its video from the camera for the stories. Just like these competitors, it is possible to comment and send full of small hearts on a live video.

The problem with this feature is that many people do not dare to make live video either because they have nothing special to show or because they are too shy. Instagram who understood this issue, decided to create a more private and intimate atmosphere around his live videos. Indeed, in addition to being ephemeral, only a small group of people who follow you will receive notification. The company said it had built this new feature to make the user feel more confident and comfortable.

Instagram live is currently available to a small group of users. The functionality should be deployed to all users in the coming weeks.
