Google improves virtual tours in museums

Google adds two new features to its Arts & Culture app and Google Maps. Virtual tours of museums will now offer more information on works of art and allow them to see them better.
Virtual tours of some museums were already available. However, apart from navigating between each work of art, the user's actions remained limited. Now you can zoom in on parts of a work with a high-resolution image.

In addition, by selecting a work, it is now possible to access additional annotations. A window will open next to the table for example with a description. To get these annotations, Google has gathered information from hundreds of museums in the world.

Google developed its first tools to explore the field of art in 2011. In July 2016, the American giant launched its application Arts & Culture and its tool of virtual visits. With the advent of these new features, Google confirms the importance of art for the company. Indeed, the search engine receives about 500 million requests related to art per month.
