LIFI, the new method connected to the internet !!

Lucibel uses LED light to access the Internet. Designed in partnership with the Scottish research department PureLiFi, this technology is now available on the market. Initially, the French manufacturer aims companies and institutions where electromagnetic waves are prohibited.
The LED lighting is at the heart of the system

If the WLAN is based on electromagnetic waves, the Lifi exploits the property of LEDs. In fact, the diodes that make up the light on and off at a frequency of several million instances per second. The trick is to take advantage of this speed on the circuit by installing a router connected to the Internet. A USB drive ensures signal reception.

To attract customers, Lucibel advance three main arguments: the speed, safety and health. Since light is faster than the waves, increasing the number of users does not reduce the flow. Moreover, the risks of piracy are decreasing, because the network is limited to the local and the data is encrypted level. Finally, WHO has already sounded the alarm about the dangers of exposure to electromagnetic waves. Therefore, the WiFi is prohibited in sensitive places such as nurseries and hospitals.

The miniaturization, the main challenge for Lucibel

Currently the Lifi back to 2300 euros. This price includes the light, the USB key, and installation. Lucibel reduce the receiver's size to facilitate its integration into electronic chips, she hopes to achieve from 2018. It will also increase its production capacity in order to limit the charges. Through these measures, the product would be more accessible and benefit from the explosion of connected objects whose number would reach 20 billion in 2020, according to Garner Institute.
