Many rumors are predicting for some months its disappearance in the next version, and today is the New York Times that his stimulus rumors indicating that this may be expected for 2017.
The iPhone 2017 could therefore present an entirely glass screen and occupy the entire surface. Thus, it would force Apple to remove the bands at the top and bottom of the device, which means that the speaker on the front and the FaceTime camera should find a new place, but especially the Home button would have to disappear . It would then be integrated directly on the screen, and simulated by a combination of animations on the screen and vibration simulating back when pressing the button, which will then become virtual. Apple has already initiated this change on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, removing the smartphone hardware button and replace it with a touch area in which the user can press, and feel a return simulated by the Taptic Engine vibrator.

The screen in question would have an OLED panel, replacing the LCD present on all models until today, which would include Apple to win still space in the device and provide a smartphone more end, consuming less power and providing better contrast.
