Available for a few days in commerce, virtual reality headset from Sony, the PlayStation VR would already be profitable for the company.
Sony expects to sell 2 million units of its virtual reality headset PlayStation VR by the end of this year. And signs of a change in business strategy in the Japanese firm: it says that the headset is already profitable.
Exit the time when Sony was selling its PlayStation 2 loss to install a park hoping to recover its investments on the sale of games, services and savings on improving its platform over the years. Since the PlayStation 3, Sony is more cautious with its games consoles and accessories and put on a display profitability from the sale of the first articles.
This is again the case with the PlayStation VR, which, despite a much more attractive price than the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vivid, would be already profitable for the brand. Sony says so do not sell it at a loss. Charged 399 euros, the helmet has something to give some lessons to the two giants settling on PC, even if the overall quality of the virtual reality experience is still far from equaling that of Oculus or live.
However, Sony has not saved on the manufacturing process. That's what iFixit reveals who has already operated in dismantling the rules of the helmet.
The experts iFixit and draw attention to a headset that comes apart pretty well and could be repaired to some extent. The additional box in turn is equipped with a fan which refresh the chips including the SoC Marvel dedicated to ultra HD 4K. There's also 1GB of DDR3 and 4GB of eMMC storage. In the end, iFixit gave 8/10 to all, welcoming the possibility offered to repair which is still the price of a large number of components.
