Facebook has announced a lighter version of its messaging application for smartphones and touch tablets.
Last year, Facebook launched Facebook Lite for Android, a variant of the Facebook application that had a lower size and only the basic features on it. The application was initially made available to users from Latin America and Africa. Now, Facebook announced Messenger Lite, a lightweight version of the popular chat application. Messenger Lite for Android will be available initially in five countries: Kenya, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Tunisia and Venezuela.

David Marcus, head of Facebook Messenger, announced that the application will be made available to other countries after the initial launch date. Like Facebook Lite, Lite Messenger has a reduced size of only 10 MB and is faster and faster to start. The application was designed for the smartphone.
