Our colleagues from Engadget met with a member of HTC's Virtual Reality Venture Capital Alliance (VRCA), a helmet maker Vive, who outlined the company's vision for the future of virtual reality.
The first project involves putting as few physical barriers as possible between the user and the VR universe. For this, the company relies on the VR Bluetooth headset system which is already topical, but it also sees further. It would work on an adapter that allows both a Bluetooth connection and a multiplayer mode.
The second challenge of the VR experience is better social interaction. Indeed, other members of the VRCA would develop a kind of integrated social network. In partnership with WeChat, the ObEN startup is working on an artificial intelligence integrated into the virtual environment that would allow VR users to interact with WeChat users on smartphones or tablets.
Finally, the future of virtual reality would also be based on improvements in eye-tracking. This is the case for example with the product aGlass which is a pair of sensors in the form of rings that land on the HTC Vive lenses. This kit allows to follow the user's field of vision at every moment.
Some of these prototypes and technologies are still in development. However, it still gives an overview that virtual reality still has great potential.
