Allowing Android applications to run on ChromeBooks is one of Google's major announcements at its developer conference in June 2014.
After some Android apps on the Chrome Web Store, the Mountain View firm has gone Further by integrating the Play Store with the ChromeBook. However, there were only six of them. Now, Google will carry that figure to more than 80 compatible computers.
These machines will join the ChromeBook Plus, ChromeBook Pro, ChromeBook 2 and ChromeBook 3 from Samsung. Most of the 80 new devices are on Google's waiting list. Indeed, the American company gave no date as to the beginning of the support. To see the list, go to this web page of Google. There are manufacturers like Acer, Asus, Dell or Lenovo. Their machines have met the criteria imposed by Google which will later extend this list to other devices.
While ChromeBooks were originally offering limited functionality, compatibility with Android apps is bringing new interest to Google's Chrome OS. Affected users will only need to upgrade to Chrome OS 53 to download apps to the Google Play store.
