If you live in the UAE, you should think twice before using any VPN service because you expose yourself to pay a large fine of up to more than half a million dollars.
In a set of new laws and amendments to old laws pertaining to communications and electronic crime sector, the UAE has decided to prevent any resident within the UAE from the use of VPN services to hide its impact after committing any kind of cyber crimes, such as entering the blocked sites or hide its IP number.
The law provided that when the use of a fake IP address (via change through VPN or any other way) to commit any electronic crime or prevent detection, (136 thousand dollars) and up to two million dirhams will be punished actor with a fine of not less than half a million dirhams (545 thousand dollars) and / or the temporary jail.
This prohibition, of course, includes not only citizens but residents expatriate workers who form 88% of the total UAE population who use communication applications such as Skype and WhatsApp and Viber and other free to communicate with their parents, which overshadowed the UAE and rely on VPN services for circumvention in applications and access to blocked sites.
In the past, the law prohibits users in the UAE to take advantage of VPN services to hide their identity when committing electronic crimes, but now the law allows the police to prosecute any user for VPN only to hide its IP number.
