Apple announces the end of its screen Thunderbolt

Apple announced the end of its Thunderbolt display, a 27 inch monitor really up to date.

The Cupertino company saw a difficult year in 2016 and used it to clean up its catalog. After the MacBook Pro not retina, it is the turn of the Thunderbolt display to bow out as explained by Apple in a statement sent to the website TechCrunch and Engadget. The firm said that the screen will remain available for purchase on its website, in the Apple Store as well as at authorized retailers while supplies last and invites users to turn to the monitors of other brands.

An outdated screen

A logical decision by Apple as its screen was surpassed today. Released in 2011, the 27-inch Thunderbolt was seduced by its design, quality display, its definition of 2560 x 1440 pixels ... and a price that exceeded the EUR 1 000.

Five years later, Apple's screen took a serious blow of old, its definition no longer corresponds to that of a high-end screen, even Apple has since unveiled an iMac Retina 5K (5120 x 2 880 pixels) and competitors are better for cheaper. Indeed, Apple has not changed the price of its screen and it is always offered to 1 149 euros.

Apple displays are not dead

With this withdrawal, the US giant will offer more screen but the situation could be short-lived. In recent weeks, rumors of the arrival of a new 4K or 5K display with Thunderbolt and 3 integrated graphics. This external GPU would aim to increase the graphics power of a MacBook.

The new screen could be unveiled at the next keynote, along with the new MacBook Pro.
