Two years ago, the SS7 loophole was revealed to the public. It eliminated the security prestige that was achieved by the verification process via text messages in smart phones.
One of its applications was to hack Google accounts, Facebook, and it came to organize attacks on a group of banks in some European countries. Which is practically impossible to patch, so the various platforms have been quick to find alternative solutions to the verification process.
In the alternative step, Google will launch a binary verification method without resorting to instant messages sent to the user's account.
The method is somewhat similar to that of Facebook, where the user will need a smartphone connected to the Internet, and every time someone tries to login to his account, a special notice will pop up on his phone telling him whether he agrees with this entry or not with the click of a button.
The feature will be launched and rolled out starting next week, and Google will make all users aware of it to offset binary verification by text messages by inviting them to change the verification pattern. This invitation will include people who have already done SMS verification.
