Godless: malware threatens millions of Android smartphones

A potentially very dangerous malware has been discovered by Trend Micro. To date, nearly 850,000 units have already been victims of malware Godless, but nearly 90% of Android devices could be targeted.

90% of Android devices potential victims of the malware, it represents hundreds of millions of smartphones in the world, one would imagine the extent of the threat.
Godless threatens hundreds of millions of Android devices

Why 90% of Android devices could be victims of malware Godless? Simply because, to date, only 10% of Android devices run Marsmallow 6.0 and Godless concern devices running Android Lollipop 5.1 and earlier versions. The calculation is done quickly.

For now, only 850,000 devices were affected mainly in Asia, but the whole planet is concerned. The five most affected countries are India (46.2%), Indonesia (10.3%), Thailand (9.5%), the Philippines (6.3%) and Malaysia (5% ). For now the threat is temporarily absent because Trend Micro detects the applications on the Play Store that were infected and warned Google, which immediately excluded them from its platform.

The problem however remains present because Godless uses android-rooting-tools, a framework used for rootage and is available at GitHub ... it offers solutions to operate more fairly old faults which vulnerabilities CVE-2014-3153 and CVE-2015-3636.

It is perfectly possible that hackers do reborn Godless by concealing it in new applications, in an attempt to rooter terminals and thus to obtain rights to install various malware unbeknownst to the user of a device or to spy on him. Google has taken some steps, but it will quickly find a solution to address the vulnerabilities. Be cautious when downloading apps in the coming weeks.
