Gooligan: malware root over one million Android smartphones

Googlian is a malware campaign that is currently wreaking havoc on Android smartphones. More than one million aircraft have already been hit and hit. The virus attacks smartphones and tablets by rooting them and causing them to install unsolicited applications.

Check Point, a security company that recently discovered malware propagated via Facebook and LinkedIn images, has just found a new variant of malware that rages on Android devices. This massive campaign infects 13,000 new devices a day, and currently it has 1 million Android smartphones and tablets to its credit. Rarely for a malware, Googlian manages to root the device on which it is installed. After being installed on a device, Googlian installs apps loaded from Google Play, thus generating fraudulent revenue and posting false comments on the store of Google. Googlian seems to spread via third-party download platforms, even within applications that seem legitimate.

Googlian attacks devices on Android 4 and Android 5, accounting for nearly 74% of Android smartphones and tablets at the moment. In the end, nearly 2 million applications have been installed without the knowledge of users since the campaign was launched, with an average of 30,000 applications installed per day. India is particularly affected, followed by Indonesia and the Philippines. Fortunately, only 19 terminals have been identified for the moment in France.
