The world now has over 4 billion internet users

More than half of the world's population is now online, 250 million new users have appeared in 2017, and two-thirds of the world's 7.6 billion people now have a mobile phone. Africa is the continent with the highest growth, with the number of Internet users across the continent increasing by more than 20% over the previous year.

We also learn that half of today's phones are multifunction phones, making it easier for people to enjoy an Internet experience wherever they are.

The use of social networks continues to grow rapidly as more than three billion people worldwide now use social media each month, with nine out of ten users accessing platforms of their choice via mobile devices.

If the figures mentioned above are not dizzying enough for you, here is a five-point anthology of the highlights of this study:

1 -  The average Internet user now spends about six hours a day using Internet-enabled            devices and services, about one-third of his waking life. If we cumulated these                  figures  for the four billion Internet users in the world, we would spend the                      equivalent  of one billion years online in 2018.

2 - Filipinos are and remain the biggest users of social networks with four hours a day          spent on Facebook and company.

3 - Multifunctional phones are definitely the preferred browsing tool for Internet users        (54% share of Internet traffic for smartphones)

4 - Facebook is ultra domineering. Whether in the field of social networks or in the field       of messaging (WhatsApp and Messenger), it is the firm of Mark Zuckerberg who wins           the lion's share in terms of use and adoption by users.

5 - The revenue generated by online commerce has grown by 16% in one year, and is               worth $ 1.5 trillion.
