8 games coming out in June you need to know about

It's June, the calendar year's equivalent of hump day!Mirror's Edge Catalyst
"Mirror's Edge Catalyst" is just one of the many great games coming out this June.
As with every other month, that means we have a boatload of wonderful games to look forward to playing. Here are eight that look especially rad:

"Edge of Nowhere""Edge of Nowhere"

In this virtual reality game for the Oculus Rift headset, you play as Victor Howard, a man on an expedition in Antarctica to find his missing wife Ava Thorne.
But what starts as a relatively straightforward adventure game soon turns towards the supernatural. According to the game's website, the twist beings as he "ventures deeper into a dark monstrous world where reality warps and twists around him. Desperate to find the one he loves, Victor must encounter disturbing creatures and climb sheer cliff walls as he descends further into madness."
You'll have to own an Oculus Rift to play this one — and they aren't cheap — but at the very least, it's worth watching the incredibly spooky trailer.
Platform: Oculus Rift
Release date: June 6

"Mirror's Edge Catalyst""Mirror's Edge Catalyst"

The original "Mirror's Edge" that came out in 2008 is a stylish, slick, and exciting first-person adventure that lets you fluidly parkour through a dystopian metropolis.
You play as Faith, a "runner" (think: rebel) who starts to fight back against the city's oppressive regime.
The new entry, which serves as a sort of prequel/reboot, looks like it will improve on the series in every way while preserving that wonderful sense of movement the first one nailed so perfectly.
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC
Release date: June 7

"Guilty Gear Xrd: REVELATOR"

"Guilty Gear Xrd: REVELATOR"
A new entry in the popular "Guilty Gear" fighting game franchise is coming!
Equally fun and punishing, this arcade-style brawler mixes bright and cartoony visuals with a soaring heavy metal soundtrack.
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3
Release date: June 7

"Mighty No. 9"

"Mighty No. 9"
Originally funded via Kickstarter in 2013, this side-scrolling shooter is heavily influenced by gaming classic "Mega Man," right down to the arm cannon and wall sliding.
Though its development has been plagued by budget issues and several production delays, the game looks like it will finally be coming out in late June.
Assuming the quality of "Mighty No. 9" didn't suffer from its several delays, it should be a slick and stylish homage to one of the greats (and it's actually made by the guy who created "Mega Man," so that should help).
Platforms: PC (Windows, Mac, Linux), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS
Release date: June 21

"Kirby: Planet Robobot"

"Kirby: Planet Robobot"
"Kirby: Planet Robobot" is a new entry in a classic series that dates back to the earliest days of Nintendo.
In addition to rapidly inhaling his enemies and absorbing their abilities, Kirby can also strap into a giant robot suit and wreak havoc.
Platform: Nintendo 3DS
Release date: June 10

"Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness"

"Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness"
The "Star Ocean" franchise is a Japanese role-playing game (a genre commonly abbreviated as "JRPG") with heavy sci-fi and fantasy influences.
Some are saying that the return of "Star Ocean," in addition to the newest "Final Fantasy" coming out this fall, is marking the return of large-scale JRPGs in a way that we haven't seen since the late '90s. We certainly hope that's the case.
So far, "Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness" looks like it nails the balance between the hyper-dramatized action and beautiful visuals that only great JRPGs can deliver.
Platform: PlayStation 4
Release date: June 28

"LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens"

"LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens"
The idea of a LEGO video game version of a popular film sounds like a cheap, poorly executed cash grab, but TT Games has proven over and over again that they can create thoughtful, quirky games that play with the mythos of giant pop culture icons.
Between "LEGO Indiana Jones," "LEGO Marvel Super Heroes," and the earlier entries in the "LEGO Star Wars" franchise, TT games has a long track record of fun, goofy games that are perfect for a family game night.
In late June, you can play "LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which will tread similar territory as the December 2015 film on which it's based (it expands on that story, too!).
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PC, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Release date: June 28

"Prison Architect"

"Prison Architect"
"Prison Architect" is a prison management simulator game. Really.
It's like "The Sims," but instead of building a home for a nice family, you have to prevent groups of violent criminals from killing each other in the cafeteria. If you're looking for a lighthearted romp, this ain't it. If you're looking for something a bit deeper, though, "Prison Architect" is perfect for you.
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One (previously released on PC)
Release date: June 28
