GrayKey, this software from an old Apple could unlock all the iPhone under iOS 11

The computer security company Cellebrite affirmed a few days ago to have designed a tool that can unlock access to any type of iPhone under iOS 11 (iPhone X included). According to an article by Forbes, GrayShift, an American company including a former engineer from Apple, offers the same kind of tool.

The GrayKey software allows to gain access to the phone in brute force. According to some experts, Cellebrite's engineers and GrayShift's engineers have probably exploited a flaw in the iPhone's Secure Enclave chip. This ensures that password entry attempts are increasingly spaced out in time. Thus, nine attempts can take up to an hour. GrayKey lets you skip this step, and try up to 300 passwords for $ 15,000. An "unlimited attempts" package is also available for $ 30,000.

Given its price, this tool is of course for police and government agencies. GrayShift gave no information regarding the technical aspect of its solution. We do not know if the software works with all versions of iOS. Apple has not made any statements about GrayKey, but the company never looks favorably on companies and agencies that want to dissect their security devices to get around them.
